| Phil and
myself weren't anticipating a chase today. Instead, we were positioning
ourselves towards O'Neill, NE for the next day of chasing. While
heading north on HWY 281 from Grand Island late that afternoon, we noticed
a lone TCu blow up to our distant north which later became a soft Cb.
I've never had a successful mobile internet connection while chasing, so
Phil gave his laptop a crack and was able to pull up a regional radar which
revealed this cell to be a tail-end Charlie entering Boyd County.
Temperatures and dewpoints
were very marginal today, but adequate speed shear gave this cell a nice
reflectivity pattern on radar. We decided to shoot north from O'Neill
and ended up chasing this cell northwest of Spencer, NE for sometime.
Nothing overly impressive was observed, but it was a decent storm to photograph
late in the afternoon hours especially considering we weren't even expecting
any storms today. |
